Tawanna T. Gilford, Ph.D

Dr. Tawanna T. Gilford is a NYS licensed Psychologist. She received her B.A in Psychology and Sociology from Binghamton University, SUNY; received her Ed.M in Psychological Counseling from Teacher’s College, Columbia University; and subsequently received her Ph.D in Counseling Psychology from The University at Buffalo, SUNY.

Dr. Gilford is a trauma informed practitioner whose professional experiences include: clinical supervision, disability assessments and determinations, hospital-based outpatient mental health services, pre-release services in state prison, homeless outreach services in NYC, and state inpatient psychiatric treatment. She is formally trained in competency evaluations, suicide and dangerousness risk assessments, and is also qualified as an expert and fact witness in NYC family court.

Dr. Gilford’s professional interests/areas of specialization are: counseling, clinical, and community psychology, cultural coping, social justice/advocacy, forensic psychology, health and wellness, exploring intergenerational transmission of trauma, women's health, and promoting help seeking behaviors amongst underrepresented groups (i.e.- individuals that have had contact within the criminal justice system, LGBTQIA+ community, and the young adult populations).
