Let's talk Teletherapy

In response to stay-at-home orders during the current COVID-19 pandemic, medical and mental health professionals are increasingly offering Telehealth as a convenient and safe way to access their healthcare and mental health care. Whether you have already relied on Telehealth or are considering it as an option, we’d like to answer some questions you may have about what it is, how it works, and whether it is right for you.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth refers to the electronic delivery of mental health services, either by telecommunication (the phone) or virtually (a computer). Once you’re scheduled an appointment with your therapist, you will receive a link via email to access your video chat.

Do I need any equipment?

Telehealth can be accessed by phone or computer. If you prefer a face-to-face connection with your therapist and want to use a computer, you will need Internet access. It is recommended that you find an area that offers privacy, and where you will not be interrupted.

What if I’m not great with technology?

That is perfectly okay. Our therapists are happy to offer therapy over the phone. Alternatively, if you wish for face-to-face contact, they will help you download the right program and walk you through the process, step-by-step.

 Can you guarantee confidentiality?

Yes, because we rely on a Telehealth program that safeguards your privacy and adheres to HIPAA regulations.

I like seeing my therapist in person. How does this compare?

Although this means you and your therapist won’t be seated together in a comfortable office, we’re found that our clients are robustly satisfied with the services we provide through Telehealth. Numerous studies have examined the efficacy of Telehealth and have found it to be equally effective as in-person sessions. Other studies observe that Telehealth upholds the quality of care you can expect in person. Increasingly, we are receiving feedback that Telehealth is a preferred method of care due to the flexibility and convenience it affords.

Will my insurance cover Telehealth?

All of the plans that we accept offer some sort of coverage for Telehealth. We encourage you to call the customer service telephone number associated with your insurance plan to inquire about the specifics of your plan’s coverage. Alternatively, you are welcome to call us at 212-658-0977 and we would be happy to help you look into it.

Is Telehealth right for me?

We believe that anyone thinking about starting therapy may want to give Telehealth a try. If for any reason you are not comfortable utilizing computer technology, we encourage you to try a session by phone. Alternatively, if you prefer face-to-face contact, we are happy to meet with you through a safe and secure video conference. Because Telehealth shows the same promising effectiveness as in-person therapy, we encourage you to reach out to us for a free 15-minute consultation. At CTS, Telehealth has always been an available service. Should you find that it is what you prefer, we are happy to offer it as long as you like.
